I see you have the beginnings of the same con on your side of the pond.

Re the constitution/’treaty’, the new PM, Gordon Brown and his henchmen, are still busy claiming that as it is a ‘treaty’ rather than a constitution they do not need to honour their election manifesto promise of a referendum.

This is rich as the ‘treaty’ is a widely acknowledged to be a cut and paste job from the rejected constitution.

They have had some stick from the Conservative opposition over the matter, but not nearly as much as I would like to see.

I suspect they are worried they may look ‘anti Europe’ if they protest too much, as they have been beaten with that stick before. Also they have some dodgy old fanatical Europhiles in their camp and are probably worried about stirring internal dissention.

There have been strong rumblings of discontent from some unions and a number of Nu-Lab backbenchers are making their objections known.

One of the national newspapers has organised a petition demanding a referendum.

There is also a planned rally/protest.

Here is a post of mine on the whole subject.

Will they cave in to the pressure? I honestly don’t know. I think that the likelihood of it blowing up in their faces may well postpone any snap election until after the matter is settled in October.

If there were a referendum I suspect it would roundly reject the constitution/treaty. That’s why the euro elite wannabes don’t want it. If they ratify it then it will almost certainly be against the majority preference.CFD Edhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14176957304124700156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3548216176174392991.post-81789087363622977102007-09-27T23:52:00.000-07:002007-09-27T23:52:00.000-07:00Thanks, Phil.By the way, anything new on the Brit ...Thanks, Phil.

By the way, anything new on the Brit approval (or nonapproval) of the EU Treaty? The story follows the career of a disaffected youth who lives on a libertarian ex-colony world. He joins the military and is recruited to an elite unit.

As the political situation between the UN and his nation deteriorates he and a team are sent deep under cover on Earth.

Eventually the UN dominated Earth declares war and he becomes a fugitive on the run…

A good read. Plenty of action, Military/political SF with a strong libertarian slant. Reminiscent of Robert A HeinleinCFD Edhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14176957304124700156noreply@blogger.com
