The Trump Corporatist Fiasco Continues
1. In the past year, our National Debt has increased by one trillion dollars; it now stands at just a smidgen away from $21 trillion. I imagine that's one of the factors which caused the IMF to launch a ten-year program to replace the Dollar as the world's reserve currency. I recall creating and later sending a petition of concern to selected members of Congress in late 2003 or early 2004. It was about our National Debt; at the time, the Debt was $6.8 trillion.
2. We're now closer to nuclear war than at any time since the end of the old Cold War. The Powers-That-Be now even believe that the use of "tactical" nukes is possible without any significant, long-term, negative effects on Life. Today's nuclear nations (especially Trump's USA) continue to promote the idea that nuke weapons should not exist in any country...except theirs. It's long past the time when no nation should have nuclear weapons.
3. Our Bubble economy continues. Despite propaganda to the contrary, it's getting worse under Trump's Corporatist, Government-Sachs Administration.
4. Environmental/Health/Safety regulations are being rolled back by the anti-Science Trumpistas on an unprecedented scale. They live in an artificial world, apparently have had little to no education in the natural sciences, so it's no wonder they seemingly can't grasp the interconnectedness of living things and their habitats...including those of humans. The same thing is happening with regulations in the Financial Sector. The foxes now are guarding the hen house, the hen house being We the People. The transfer of wealth to the Upper Crust is being made easier. The Middle Class continues to shrink; it's now less than 50% of our population.
5. With the firing of Tillerson, the only person in the whole Trump Crew who had a bit of statesmanship in him, the Don's White House most likely has surpassed all others for Staff turnover in the first fourteen months or so. Not a stable situation. The only thing consistent about the Trump Outfit is that they're all scientifically illiterate, and they're Corporatists, Warmongers, supporters of torture, supporters of failed economic & fiscal policy, & Super-Rich. Never mind that they're violators of their Oath of Office..."...preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States...". The really bad news is that Trump's choice for a replacement each time there's a Staff turnover is even worse in terms of Corporatism, Warmongering, etc. They're like a bunch of spoiled, ignorant children.
6. Though a bit less, probably so because of the approaching Mid-Term elections, Trump's gaslighting & lying continue. He comes out with outrageous claims and bald-faced lies...most likely to distract people from his many troubles.

It's mind-boggling that Trump ever got into the highest political office in this Land in the first place, and that he hasn't yet been kicked out. That's the truly amazing part of it all. Welcome to the Evil of Two Lessers. In the USA, Propaganda reigns supreme...again.
Though there are obvious differences, the entire political scenario in the USA today is eerily similar to that of Germany in 1933.

Quagmires and Plain Craziness, in the USA and Abroad
1. Our Gov't continues its two and a half decade war in Iraq. If I recall correctly, that war started in 1990. There were a few brief respites between then & now, but not many. [I count "sanctions" as acts of war... because History does as well.] Just prior to 1990, Saddam & our Gov't Oligarchs were best buddies. He was taken OFF the Terrorist Watch List by Reagan, I think it was, because Iraq was in a war with Iran. We continue on in Iraq not because of "spreading democracy" or "fighting terrorism" or whatever the current excuse may be, but rather because our access to Iraq's oil is not yet secure.
2. Similarly, our Gov't continues to wage war (Gov't Oligarchs call it "counter-terrorism") in Afghanistan because geologists estimate that a one trillion dollar bonanza in minerals lies under the ground there. [Some of those minerals are rare and just about mined-out everywhere else.] The U.S. Gov't wants to secure access to that bonanza.
3. Our President continues to meet every Tuesday with some number of other Executive Branch outlaws in order to choose which people to murder in "counter-terrorism" drone attacks. [In most cases, such people are SUSPECTS.] Again, I point out that such action by the Executive Branch is a direct violation of the U.S. Constitution. One of the clauses in Article I, Section 8 clearly states that Letters of Marque and Reprisal (assassination orders) are to be issued by the Congress. The Executive has no authority in that area. Being Commander-in-Chief never has meant that the President gets to ignore some parts of the Supreme Law of the Land.
4. Our Govt's Terrorist Watch List (or whatever the hack politicians call it) is completely illegal. Admittedly, I'm not an attorney...thank Buddha-Mind (or "God", if you prefer); however, I do have a fairly good grasp of Logic and I'm very familiar with the Constitution. I say that List is illegal because it accuses and harms people without them knowing about it until it's too late. Plus, there's no appeal, no recourse, no chance to defend oneself. You are deemed guilty until the Gov't changes its mind. That whole scenario is not fair, just, or legal. It's one more piece of evidence that we are in a Soft Fascist State.
5. The Gov't of Turkey is now bombing both ISIS and the Kurds in northern Iraq, the same Kurds who are fighting ISIS. Institutional idiocy.
6. The Gov't of Germany (the richest country in Europe), along with the European Central Bank and others (including Hedge Funds), have refused to write-down Greece's debt to a point where it can be repaid. After WW I, that's exactly the break that Germany got relative to its debt. That's why, prior to Hitler, Germany was at the pinnacle of European culture and productivity. The Germans were able to recover from WW I because their debt was reduced by their creditors. [By the way, some portion of Greece's debt has been purchased at discounted prices by Hedge Funds, which stand to benefit greatly from the "Austerity" being imposed upon Greece.] So now, pensions in Greece are being reduced to about $94 per month. Public infrastructure will be sold to mega corporations. Taxes will be raised in an already devastated economy. Way to go, Germany, et. al. Save the rich creditors, ruin Greece. Great plan.
7. The Police State in the USA continues on. Read the headlines. Plus, because cities & counties have lost so much tax revenue (due to Oligarchs moving manufacturing out of our country), in some places a driver can be ticketed & fined for having anything hanging from the rear view mirror...such as a deodorizer or a chain. Then, too, there is Civil Asset Forfeiture. With no charge, no indictment, no trial, nothing, your cash and other property can be seized by police because it's "suspicious". For example, a significant amount of cash can be taken from you because the cop suspects that you may buy drugs with it...probable cause is not required. Another example: if you have certain tools in your car, they can be taken with no due process... because the cop thinks you're going to commit a burglary with them. Have mercy.
8. Saudi Arabia continues to behead people for "crimes" such as sorcery and blasphemy. These barbarians are our allies, folks. Again, have mercy. Never mind that the State there sponsors the most radical form of Sunni Islam (Wahhabism) in existence... they behead people for "crimes" such as blasphemy and adultery. Wake up, DC politicos.
9. Obama continues to deny that his wars are war at all. Instead, they are deemed "counter-terrorism". Orwell would be proud. The Constitution is clear about who can put this country at war... and it's not the President. It appears, though, that very few Americans care whether or not our "leader" is violating the Supreme Law of the Land. Amazing.
10. It looks as though most Americans are gearing up for the phony national election next year. For eight years, I've used this blog to detail why our whole political scene is a farce... so I won't repeat myself now.

The Coup in Greece & Why it's Important to You
The new government in Greece was blackmailed by Oligarchs. The Greek Gov't did not close the banks; it was the European Central Bank that did so. Imagine if, for example, the Fed Reserve here closed all banks in the USA. They would be re-opened only if our Gov't agreed to receiving a large loan AND the following: raising taxes on everyone; cutting SS (which is paid for by every individual over the span of his/her working life); and selling off public infrastructure to mega corporations. What do you think would happen? I think our Gov't would cave in to the demands.
Those at the top of the hierarchy in the Euro-Zone, the IMF, Germany (the richest country in Europe), the European Central Bank, various hedge funds, etc. brought about the coup in Greece in order to continue Debt Bubble economies there and throughout the world. Greece had been mounting what probably is the first democratic challenge in the modern world to the oligarchical, fiat money, central bank, debt bubble, false economic model, and wealth-transfer-to-the-rich SYSTEM. It will be interesting to see what the Greek Parliament does now.
On Democracy Now tonight, it was pointed out that Goldman Sachs had been involved in a fraudulent way in getting Greece to qualify financially for the Euro-Zone in the first place. Goldman apparently made a lot of money on the deal. That was back when, of course, Greece had an entirely different government. My point is that what's going on doesn't involve only the IMF, the Euro-Zone, the European Central Bank, and Greece. Other mega banks are also a part of the whole scenario.
So, why should anyone care, especially anyone in the USA? Here's why---
The situation in Greece is but one example of what's going on around the world relative to Neoliberalism. Using various institutions (mega banks, other mega corporations, the IMF, the World Bank, the Bank of International Settlements, the WTO, "Free Trade" Agreements, governments, and others) and rampant Edward Bernays style propaganda, Neoliberals are ensuring the continuation of the largest transfer of wealth in history from the poor & middle classes to the super-rich. Many methods are used, not the least of which is to make certain that everyone everywhere is in massive debt. [None of this is a "conspiracy"; most all of it is in plain sight.]
Sooner or later, the worldwide Debt Bubble (public & private) will burst. History shows us that all financial/economic bubbles eventually do so. I imagine that Oligarchs either have, or are working on, some new system of money and economics. Once the crash occurs, though, it may take months or more to institute that new system.
Until We the People in every country stop putting faith in deceitful politicians, this all will continue. That's not pessimism, it's reality. That means all politicians in all the traditional, major political parties in every country. They've had their shot for hundreds of years. In general, they have failed to enable a just and prosperous existence for all of us on a long-term basis. It continually amazes me that people support these same, old, hack political parties and their dismal records. They all, and that includes the Democrats in this country, work for the Super-Rich.

Surratt, Bush-Cheney, Obama, & the Military v. Civilians
The 2010 movie, The Conspirator, directed by Robert Redford, triggered my researching the case of Mary E. Surratt, the first woman to be executed by the U.S. Fed Gov't...after being tried and found guilty by a military tribunal. Mary was convicted of being one of the conspirators in the assassination of Lincoln. The prosecution case against her was flawed; as a result, a judge signed a writ of habeas corpus, ordering a new trial in civilian court. The writ was vacated by President Andrew Johnson, and Mary was hanged. Her attorney, Frederick Aiken, was so disheartened by the turn of events that he left the Law and later became the first City Editor of the Washington Post. A year after Surratt's execution, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a decision stating that military tribunals for cases against civilians were unconstitutional, and that civilians must be tried in civilian court...even during times of war.
Before going further, let's clear up what I believe is a misconception regarding Rights and the U.S. Constitution. It appears to me that too many Americans believe that our Supreme Law of the Land grants us Rights, and that only citizens of our country are entitled to those Rights in the USA. Not true. What the Constitution does is protect Rights that all people possess at birth. The Declaration of Independence states, "...that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.". So, Freedom for example, is our birthright...and is not dependent upon any government grant. The former Attorney General under Dubya Bush, Alberto Gonzales, was dead wrong when he testified before Congress that people don't necessarily have the Right of habeas corpus..."because the Constitution does not grant us that Right". Everyone is entitled to the Right of habeas corpus; the Constitution doesn't grant us any Rights. They are ours at birth. It's crucial to the survival of Freedom that people understand that point.
Humans have understood the difference between troops in war and civilians for centuries. Modern day Oligarchs and their puppets have changed the rules... and muddied the waters. According to them, we now have "enemy combatants"; they aren't troops, but should be treated the same as troops...sometimes. When captured, they can be treated as neither troops nor civilians, but rather as something akin to rabid animals. According to the Plutocrats, Rights do not apply to them...even criminals are treated better than "enemy combatants". This all comes from the rulers of supposedly civilized, ethical, moral nations. Incredible. Suspects have been held in Guantanamo for years with no charges, and then released for lack of evidence. Suspects have been subjected to so-called "enhanced interrogation", and then released for lack of evidence. A German citizen, after being flown to various Black Sites around the Globe by the CIA finally was released afoot in the middle of nowhere in Germany...in the middle of the night. For months, his family had no idea where he was. Put yourself in his or their shoes. It's no wonder to me that the government of the USA (and for that matter, the UK as well) is becoming more & more hated around the world. They don't hate you for your Freedom Bush-Cheney; they hate you for your terrorism. [We'll get to Obama shortly.]
Presumption of innocence and anything resembling due process apparently are gone...or very well hidden. The use of weaponized drones against civilians (suspects) has become the new norm under our Nobel-Peace-Prize-winning President. As reported on Democracy Now!, apparently for every ONE terrorist SUSPECT killed by drones, TWENTY-EIGHT unidentified people are killed by the same means. The Administration can claim "precision" in these murders because anyone killed by a weaponized drone automatically is designated by the military as an EKIA...Enemy Killed in Action. If anyone can prove otherwise, then the person is de-listed as an enemy... of course, he/she is dead by then. A drone operator on the job for six years finally quit because he had grave doubts about how "suspects" are identified. It seems to me that it should be paramount to be certain we are not killing innocent civilians. One poor soul in Pakistan has been trying for years to get justice for the slaughter of members of his family...one a child and another a grandmother. We should all be ashamed and enraged at the same time, but very few seem to care.
The Oligarchs, our President chief among them, have made sure that the psychological/emotional cost to most of us for this so-called "war" is very little to none. Even the financial cost is well hidden...it's all borrowed money, to be paid by our posterity. [They'll pay the interest on the debt; the U.S. Gov't has no intention whatsoever of repaying the principal...because that's not possible. We never could do it; the National Debt simply is too large. That's why, sometime in the future, countries of the world will reject the dollar as the world's reserve currency. Shortly after that happens, barring unforeseen circumstances, the Great Depression of the '30s will look like a picnic compared to the economy that will be experienced.] Obama claims that none of this really is war; instead, it's "counter-terrorism". That's code, or Gov't-Speak, for Perpetual War. The Oligarchs and their puppets have dropped the phrase, "WAR on Terror" or "WAR on Terrorism" (which, by the way, first was coined by the Reagan Administration) because people eventually saw through it. Now it's "counter-terrorism" or "defending the homeland". In any case, SUSPECTS are being grossly mistreated... or murdered outright. In the process, U.S. troops and other military personnel are expected to have Law Enforcement skills. It's no wonder that more vets have committed suicide than have been killed in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. Military actions encourage more terrorism; Law Enforcement actions prevent more terrorist acts.
In addition to Obama's egregious drone operations, Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) assassination squads continue to operate. Where is the civilian oversight? Where is the proof of guilt relative to the victims? [I still haven't seen a shred of proof beyond a reasonable doubt that Osama was responsible for 9-11. The video in which a supposed Osama was sitting around with cohorts admitting guilt was a sham. I could instantly see that was not Osama bin Laden.] Where is the accountability regarding the murder of innocent civilians by drone attacks? Are We the People so propagandized that we've abandoned all concepts of fairness and justice? Has the Fed Gov't (at the highest levels) itself become a terrorist organization? Why is it that when "they" murder innocent people, it's terrorism; but when "we" do it, it's "collateral damage", or "the price of war"?
Terrorists are CRIMINALS, not soldiers. Suspects are just that. In an ethical society, they must be accorded due process...no matter how emotionally painful that may be. Apparently we do not live in an ethical society. Obama can't seem to make up his mind. Some terrorist suspects he has taken to trial in civilian court. Others are locked down in Gitmo for a decade or so...with no formal charges. Others simply are killed. Suspects. This whole scenario is a genuine travesty... as was the case of Mary Elizabeth Surratt.
