The Two-Party Political System in the USA was Founded by Plutocrats

 Here's only a tiny part of the current state of American politics.  Each description at each link is extremely brief---

[Here are some of the "horrors of socialism" in the USA:  national parks, public roads, public libraries, public health clinics, social security retirement, & anything else not privatized.]
[This borders on criminality perpetrated by Repub AND Dem elected officials & appointed bureaucrats.  Perhaps arguably, it's child abuse.]
["The U.S. continues to hold 34 prisoners at Guantánamo. Only 11 of them have been charged in military tribunals."  What an egregious shame on American national politicians.  ALL humans have certain rights, including criminals, terrorists, SUSPECTS, & the like.]

HISTORY MATTERS---

The first political Parties in the USA were the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans (AKA, the Anti-Federalists).  They were formed by the first political "bosses" about twenty years after the founding of our country.  Alexander Hamilton was the Head of the Federalists, and they were in favor of a strong central government.  When the USA was forming in the mid-1770's, Hamilton favored a monarchy for our type of government; he believed we should have a King.  Thomas Jefferson was the Head of the Democratic-Republicans, and they favored strong States' Rights.

These first American political Parties were formed by the members of the social elite, the rich plutocrats of that time.  Almost all of them "owned" hundreds of slaves, and believed only the aristocracy should rule a country.  Twenty years prior to the formal organization of the two Parties, these same men formed our government.  They did not favor a democracy, and often described same as "two wolves and a sheep deciding what's for dinner".

They finally settled on a Constitutional Republic in which "all men are created equal", except of course, for slaves.  Women couldn't vote, and members of the Senate were not elected; instead, they were appointed to office.

Time passed, and things changed.  Now we're the "land of the free and the home of the brave".  I agree we're brave.  One has to be when putting up with politicians who favor mega banks, perpetual war, fossil fuels, policing the world, the American Empire, the rich & powerful, and Edward Bernays style propaganda.  But, are you "free" - from debt, from job insecurity, from the rat-race, from pollution (e.g., the "forever chemicals" and the nano-plastics in your body), from a fractured and atomized society, from the super high cost of living, from a government too large to be managed properly, from "food deserts" scattered all across the country, from weather extremes which could have been mitigated on the macro-scale, from inflation (the hidden tax)?  If not, then place much of the blame on a broken TWO-PARTY system which is largely run by Oligarchs and/or their influence.

Don't jump to conclusions.  No one loves this country more than I do.  It's a false myth which says if you love your country, then you must support the scoundrels who are running it.  Plutocrats promote that baloney.  The aristocracy wants you to believe such nonsense.  As Warren Buffett once stated fairly recently:  "There's a Class War going on in this country, and my side is winning.".  So true, Mr. Buffett.

It doesn't have to be that way.  Stop drinking the propaganda kool-aid coming from Repubs AND Dems.  Overwhelmingly, they are on the same Team (except for a few social hot-button issues), and it's not yours.  They are on Team Oligarchy.

So, what's to be done?

1.  If you're a Democrat, don't ever vote for one of your "centrist/moderate" candidates (unless he/she is running against someone like Trump).  They are NOT centrists; they are corporatists.  They are part of the Big Business Establishment.  Instead, support Progressives.  They have their flaws, but they're the closest thing to being democratic (with a small letter "d") in the Corporatist Dem Party.  The Dem Party of the past is long-gone, replaced by neoliberalism.

After Sanders was completely shafted by the DNC, it's amazing to me that any Progressives remained in the so-called Dem Party.  They all should have dumped it.  I'm guessing they believe they'll change it from the inside.  That's highly unlikely.  It's a rigged game, rigged by billions of dollars.

2.  If you're a Republican, be aware that the Repub Party also is long-gone; it has been co-opted first by Neoconservatives, and then by Neoliberals.  They support Big Biz over Small Biz.  They egregiously promulgate Corporate Globalization and monopolies.  The only thing they want to conserve is Rule by Plutocrats.  They favor industrial farming over smaller family farms.  They abhor competition in the marketplace.  They don't give a damn about your religion, your ethics, or your belief in conservatism.  In short, you've been bamboozled.

Your best hope is to dump the so-called Repub Party, and become an Independent or perhaps a Libertarian (although, you probably won't care for the liberal side of libertarianism).  You're fairly well shafted, partly because most likely you don't know much at all about Russell Kirk, the Founder of Modern Day Conservatism.  Without knowing it, you allowed genuine conservatism to be replaced by neoliberalism.

On What Legitimate, Ethical Authority?

What legitimate, ethical authority do the highest levels of our Fed Gov't have to...

1.  launch a pre-emptive war?  [as in the case of the 2003 Iraq invasion by the USA];

2.  tell Iran that it can't have a nuclear program?  [when Israel has ~ 200 nuclear weapons, and the USA is developing or upgrading so-called "tactical" nukes];

3.  impose sanctions on Russia for intervening in a civil war?  [when the highest levels of our Fed Gov't do the same thing on an almost regular basis];

4.  develop (paraphrased) "tools to guide Venezuela in the direction it needs to go"?  [Venezuela is a sovereign nation...it can go in any direction it so desires];

5.  insist (via the IMF and/or World Bank) that any particular country undergo "austerity"?  [when the USA is the largest debtor nation in the world...and there's no visible austerity imposed by our Gov't];

6.  spy on our allies?  [and then condemn other nations for doing the same to us];

7.  act as the world's Police Force?  [without any U.N. authorization];

8.  refuse to return Guantanamo (which essentially was stolen by us) to Cuba?;

9.  refuse to recognize the sovereignty of Native American Indian Nations?  [said sovereignty being guaranteed by numerous Treaties...all of which have been broken by the Feds];

10.  launch weaponized drone strikes into countries (e.g., Pakistan), killing both SUSPECTS and innocent civilians, when the "intelligence" identifying the suspects largely is from cell phone meta-data?  [Pakistan has told our Gov't to cease and desist more than once.]
..................................................................................

The answer to all of the above is...NONE.  There is no legitimate, ethical authority for those actions.  Every patriot (as opposed to nationalist) should point that out... loudly and repeatedly.

Guantanamo, Exceptionalism, Neoliberals, and the Feds

In 1898, our Gov't stole Guantanamo at gunpoint.  That was during the time when "we" were "saving" various parts of the world from............................ Spain.  In 1903, Cuba essentially was forced (at gunpoint) to sign a perpetual lease, one of the terms being that our Gov't was to pay Cuba $2,000 a year... in gold.  I wonder if the USA held up that end of the bargain.  That also was during the time when Mark Twain became a founding member of the American Anti-Imperialist League.

The USA no longer engages in Imperialism.  Our Gov't (which hasn't represented We the People for quite some time) now engages in NeoImperialism.  That's so much better... one doesn't have to occupy a country in order to essentially control it.  Simply surround it with some of the almost 1,000 military bases the US has around the world.  The warships help, too.  Waging financial and economic war (or threatening to) is a big help as well.  Oh, and then there's the NSA spying...............on our allies.  None of them, of course, are permitted to spy on us; that's a crime.  When our Feds do it to others, that's okay.  [We the People did not delegate the power to the Fed Gov't to do any of that insanity.  The Constitution ENUMERATES all legitimate powers delegated to the Feds.  That document must be legally changed in order to add any new powers.  Interpreting it differently will not suffice.]

1898 was a banner year.  The Fed Gov't also "saved" Guam and the Philippines... and "annexed" Hawaii.  ["Annexed"--- that's Gov't-Speak for stole.]  When other countries do similar things, that's wrong... even a crime in many cases.  When the Fed Gov't does it, it's just, moral, ethical, and helpful.  That's because of American Exceptionalism---the concept that the USA is, you know, special (that's Gov't-Speak for "better").  "We" are exceptional because... well, just because.  [Usually promoters of American Exceptionalism say that it's because we have so many freedoms here (and value them so).  What they leave out is this:  those freedoms must conform to certain moral (not ethical) standards.  Other freedoms, even if they do NOT infringe on anyone's genuine rights or property, are not permitted.  So, for example, if one wishes to possess & imbibe a plant substance in the privacy of one's own home, behind locked doors, that is a crime.  There's nothing ethically wrong with it, but it doesn't meet certain moral standards.  Morality is subjective and varies from person to person and group to group.  Ethics are objective, carved in stone, and do not vary at all...ever.  Ethics are based on the science of Logic.  Doing the same with America's drug of choice (booze), of course, is okay, not a crime.  Hypocrisy abounds.]

Nowadays, and for some time, our Gov't is so special that it gets to be the World Police.  On what authority?  Well, you know.......................... none.  It's just that we're so exceptional.  That's it.  For example, when our Gov't kills children, that's NOT terrorism; when others kill children, it IS terrorism.  When our Gov't bombs civilians, that's NOT terrorism; when others do it, it IS terrorism.  Why?  Well, you know, our Fed Gov't is exceptional.  It does almost nothing wrong.  When it does do something wrong, it rarely holds anyone accountable for that wrongdoing... except for some low-level, unfortunate person.  As Obama recently said (paraphrased) in relation to the Senate torture report:  yes, some things were done wrong, but I prefer to move forward rather than dwell on the past.  It's a familiar refrain from those at the highest levels of our Outlaw Fed Gov't.

Don't misunderstand me.  I love this Land and its People.  At the same time, though, I pretty much dislike the highest levels of our Fed Gov't, the political Oligarchs.  Why?
1.  We no longer have a representative government in this country.  According to the respected, late historian, Carroll Quigley (Bill Clinton's mentor at Georgetown U.), we haven't had one since well before the 1960s.  The overwhelming majority of national political candidates are selected, groomed, and financed by the rich & powerful... and dance to their tune... at the expense of the rest of us.
2.  The Neoliberals (both Democrats and Republicans) at the highest levels have killed the Republic by trashing the Constitution of the United States.
3.  The Neoliberals (Democrats and Republicans) in Gov't, the Corporate Media, educational institutions, and mega corporations have been inundating this Land with Edward Bernays style Propaganda Kool Aid for decades.  The highest levels of the nonrepresentative Fed Gov't are the worst offenders in that regard.
4.  The Neoliberals (Democrats and Republicans) at the highest levels in the Fed Gov't are grossly hypocritical when it comes to spying (especially spying on allies), pre-emptive invasions, exposing wrongdoing (as in the cases of whistleblowers), complying with International Law (e.g., the Geneva Conventions), economic sanctions (sanctions are an act of war), etc., etc., ad nauseum.

The Whole Political Spectrum is Wrong RE the Constitution - WHY?

Part III: The Bush-Obama Doctrines

1.  Give countries that in any way support fanatical Islamists a hard time... unless, of course, that country is Saudi Arabia.  The Wahhabi Sect, a radical offshoot of the Sunnis, is a State-sponsored religion in the Saudi Kingdom.  The majority of the 9-11 hijackers were from the Kingdom.  Osama bin Laden was a Saudi.  There are numerous other suggestions (not proof) that the soft dictators in Saudi Arabia don't really oppose fanatical Islamists.  The House of Saud has been bound to the House of Bush in a business sense for years and years.  When Obama met the "King" of the Kingdom, he bowed deeply to him.  Such deference coming from a President is a bit much... not especially significant, but still, a bit much.  Obama, like Bush and every other President in my long memory, ignores the downside of Saudi Arabia--- for one, the fact that it's a dictatorship... for another, the fact that it supports what is essentially a fanatical cult.  Wahhabis have zero tolerance for Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Shiite Islam, even some Sunnis, and democracy.  [A couple of Arab political analysts have proposed that what's currently going on in Iraq is a proxy war between Sunni Saudi Arabia and Shiite Iran.]

2.  Continue the over-half-century, outdated, vindictive U.S. Policy toward Cuba... a land where, about a hundred years ago or more, our Fed Gov't stole at gunpoint Guantanamo Bay; a land where our Fed Gov't supported the brutal dictator Batista; a land where for years & years, the CIA tried to assassinate Castro; a land where for years and years, our Govt's NeoImperialism reigned supreme.  Yes, the Castro Gov't once was a threat to us; no reasonable person thinks that now.

3.  Continue the policy of letting the Fed Reserve Board of Governors arbitrarily set interest rates... rates that should be determined by a Free Market.  The only people being served well by the Fed are the Hedge Funds and other speculators on Wall Street.  The Middle Class suffers... and those at the very bottom of the economic ladder are completely screwed.

4.  Similar to number 3, continue the policy of unsound money.

5.  Continue to allow mega banks to use depositors' money for risky, often shady so-called "investments"... instead of requiring them to raise their own capital for such activity.

6.  Continue on with the antiquated, underfunded, understaffed SEC, which cannot possibly oversee the automated, algorithm-driven, split-second, computerized Wall Street "trading" of today.

7.  Continue to promote and support the window-dressing "reform" laws relative to the out-of-control Financial Sector.  That will assure large, future campaign contributions from white-collar thieves.

8.  Continue the myth that the President can write "Executive Orders" on just about any subject he/she pleases... and that such actions are "implied" by the Constitution and have the full force and effect of Congressional Legislation, even if Congress opposes those "Orders".  That is complete nonsense and utter claptrap.  There is no such implication in the Constitution.  Again, We the People are being played for chumps. [To see exactly which Orders are permitted, go to Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution.  Only two are enumerated... no others are listed, or implied.  The first is that the President may require in writing the opinion of each Executive Department Head on any subject relating to their duties.  The second is that the President may order pardons for offenses against the U.S. (except in cases of Impeachment).  The Constitution enumerates powers, it does not imply them.  If the power isn't listed, the Feds don't have it.  To get a new, unlisted power, they must Amend the Supreme Law of the Land.  To believe that the document implies this, that, or the other is to accept the idea that it can mean pretty much anything that anyone wants it to mean.  That makes it worthless.]
........................................................

The point of this three-piece series on the Bush-Obama Doctrines is simple:  when it comes to significant and substantial matters, there is little to no difference between (at the highest levels) modern-day Republicans and Democrats.  They're merely two branches of the same (and only) major political Party in the USA.  Furthermore, it's obvious that they no longer serve the best interests of We the People.  "Voting" doesn't necessarily guarantee a representative government, especially when 99.9% of all candidates at the national level are selected, groomed, and financed by an Oligarchy of the super-rich... while the very few honest politicians are completely ignored, or smeared, or otherwise marginalized.  There is a better way, but first we must stop drinking the Edward Bernays style Propaganda Kool Aid.  That's essential if we are to generate a fair, just, prosperous, and free society.
